United Way sponsors the Day of Caring every year in Jackson County, Indiana. Volunteers from local businesses and agencies are put into teams. The teams are then dispatched to various not-for-profit organizations to work on projects for the day. Team Depot and two volunteers from Aisin U.S.A. (Chuck Hendershot and me) worked at Camp Pyoca, a Presbyterian Camp. The camp not only hosts church events for all denominations, but also any event held by non-profits. Our group built walls in a utility room, put in stairs at a new cabin, painted and stained bunk beds. I'll have to admit that Team Depot did all of the construction. Chuck and I just painted!
PROJECTS JUNE/JULY
2011: July 10, 2009, Paul Ruster Park. Will be painting picnic tables and working on the landscape.
2012: July 20, 2009, Perry Township Senior Citizens is starting a meal program. We will have a group of associates to help get the facility ready for the grand opening. We are waiting for the board of health to give us the go ahead.
2014: July 11, 2009, We are working at the Boys and girls club, Painting, mulching, and putting in flowers. Will need 10 and 15 associates, and several parents are going to help.
July 18, 2009, we are working with the Washington Township School. They received a grant from the NFL and still need some items and help. There is going to be a big celebration and a ribbon cutting ceremony that HD will be recognized in.
2017: Does not have a Team Depot Captain
2018: July 28, 2009 from 8am to noon at Sham Park, we will be building Picnic tables, building horse shoes.
2019: Team Depot Captain not on call
2021: In July, date not confirmed, we will be working at the Boys and Girls club still waiting on the grant to be approved from Atlanta. End of July we work the County Fair. We go to the county fair, we drive application for credit, kids workshop, advertises community involvement for team depot, and a large give away at the end. July 28, 2009 we are having an outdoor carnival to celebrate the 30 days. The team depot groups are running the carnival for the associates.
2026: July 14, 2009, we will be finishing up the soup kitchen in Greenfield. They are opening the doors soon. July 23, 2009, we are doing a kids workshop at Spring Hill nursing home. We are also working with Greenfield Park, but date not confirmed.
